#10 Haricots Jaunes

I found these at Trader Joes and thought they looked interesting.

Recipe: Just steam them like green beans.

How I felt about it: Tastes a bit like green beans...the flavor is different though, but I can't pinpoint the difference.

#9 Tindora

Recipe: Cut off ends, cut in half, cut halves in three long pieces, drizzle in olive oil and add your favorite seasoning, then saute until tender or bake at 350 for 25 minutes. I baked them.

How I felt about it: They look like mini cucumbers, and when cooked tasted like most squash. They were good.

#8 Swiss Chard

Recipe: http://casualkitchen.blogspot.com/2007/08/antioxidant-alert-how-to-cook-swiss.html  I cooked it like they said and added nothing to it.

How I felt about it:  I would love to tell you how it tastes, but it doesn't really have a taste. A good choice for a healthy green (good antioxidant) if you don't like the way greens taste. Next time I may add a little garlic to see if that gives it any flavor.

#7 Kale

Recipe: Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large saucepan, add 1 cup water or broth (I used vegetable broth), add Kale, toss to combine. Cover and cook for 5 minutes (adding more water or broth as needed). Remove lid and continue to cook until liquid has evaporated. Salt and Pepper to taste (I barely used any).

How I felt about it: LOVED IT! Kale lived up to what everyone makes of it. I will definitely be eating more kale.

#6 Collard Greens

Recipe: I just went with the recipe off of the back of the bag. I can't remember now what it was, but it wasn't very good anyway.

How I felt about them: I might have well just have gone and picked some grass and cooked it. I'm not a big fan.

#5 Chinese Bitter Melon

How I felt about it: Oh My God! Horribly horribly horribly bitter. Never ever again. Gross. We ended up throwing out that entire dish.

#4 Opo Squash

Recipe: I just cut it up with com zucchini and yellow squash and sauteed all three in olive oil with a little vegetable seasoning.

How I felt about it: I liked it. It tasted a lot like the zucchini and yellow squash. I will definitely eat it again.

#3 Pummelo

Recipe: It's kind of like a grapefruit, so I just cut it up and ate it like one.

How I felt about it: It was kind of bitter and had a strange after taste. I won't be eating pummelo again.

#2 Chayote

Recipe: I just sauteed it in some olive oil with a little bit of salt.

How I felt about it: I actually liked it a lot. I could see myself adding this to the list of foods I will buy. I was also told that it's good in soups. I'll have to try a soup recipe with it.

#1 Beets

Recipe: Didn't save the recipe and can't find it now...sorry.

How I felt about it: I didn't love them, yet didn't hat them. I hear this is strange for beets, and that you typically either love them or hate them. I don't think they are something that I would necessarily make again.
